Effects of Cognitive and Modelling Techniques on Students’ Study Behaviours in Secondary Schools

This study investigated the effects of cognitive restructuring and modelling: cues of counselling on students' study behaviours with two research toons and two hypotheses through a non-randomised, quasi-experimental research design. Three hundred and eight students in SS2 intact classes from Federal Government-owned secondary schools in Ebonyi State, Nigeria were used. There were two types of treatments that lasted for ten es Students in experimental groups were treated with cognitive restructuring and modelling therapies while participants in the control group were not exposed to any therapy. The adolescent Study Behaviour Index (ASBI) was constructed and validated by the researcher and was used for data collection. A Cronbach Alpha of 0.80 was obtained to confirm the reliability of the instrument The research questions were answered using descriptive statistics while Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the tmeses at 0.05 level of significance. Results showed that there were font treatment and interaction effects. These findings behove the c counsellors and other stakeholders to apply cognitive restructuring modelling techniques of counselling to remedy students' study behaviours in order to enhance students' academic performance.
